This simple and healthy paleo lentil soup is a real evening meal, snack or lunch appetizer. It is ready in just 20 minutes and you can season to your liking, you will hardly go wrong. I used ginger juice, turmeric and tamari with salt and pepper to prepare the paleo lentil soup. I added fried smoked tofu, black sesame, baby chard and kombu algae and made it a real balanced meal.
When cooking beans, it is very desirable to add kombu algae because, in addition to enriching the dish with minerals and vitamins, it softens legumes and makes them more palatable.
One of the simple reasons I love preparing this paleo lentil soup is because it contains kombu algae, famous for its nutritional properties! The kombu algae is filled with rich minerals such as magnesium or calcium, that not only help your digestion, but can detoxify your body of heavy metals in the process. Combined with fresh ginger, carrots, tamari and of course, lentils, this is an amazingly healthy meal and an absolute blast of a soup.
Paleo Lentil Soup Recipe
To create your paleo lentil soup, follow the steps below:
Paleo Lentil Soup
- 3 cloves garlic
- half yellow onion
- 2 larger carrots
- 1/2 cup red lentils
- 1/2 strip kombu algae ((wash before))
- 600 ml hot water
- 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
- 3 cm fresh ginger ((peeled and grated))
- 1 tbsp tamari (beware of salt if you use tamari))
- olive oil (extra virgin)
To start preparing your healthy paleo lentil soup, chop up the garlic, onion and carrot into cubes.
Put olive oil (or someone else suitable for cooking) in a deeper pan and wait for it to warm up a little over a low heat. Add onion, after a few moments and garlic. Stir until onions and garlic are softened. Add salt and carrots and mix.
Add lentils, seaweed and stock or water. Cover and cook for 20-25 minutes on low heat.
When the lentils and carrots have softened, take out the kombu algae and transfer the soup to a blender (you can remove the foam from cooking the lentils first).
Blend until you get a thick paleo lentil soup. You can adjust the density to your liking by adding more water.
At this point, add the tamari if using it, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric and freshly ground pepper, and ginger juice (strain the grated ginger by hand directly into a blender).
Blend and try and add more spices if missing.
Serve your paleo lentil soup warm with toppings as desired.
Serving recommendation:
seeds (black sesame), fresh green vegetables (baby chard or parsley), extra protein (fried smoked tofu cut into cubes) and kombu algae (cooked with soup).
You can add these to your paleo lentil soup if you feel like it!

Tastes amazing!!
Easy and quick. I like the subtle ginger flavor, but I sliced my ginger and tossed it in during cooking instead of using just juice. I used liquid aminos instead of tamari. For me it’s a tiny bit too salty. My husband, however, will love it that way. I also soaked my lentils because I heard that increases nutritional value, no idea where I read that, though. I’m excited to serve it with a side of baked tofu for dinner tonight. Next time I will double or triple the recipe to have extra for the freezer. It’s really very tasty.
I’d like to update my review of 11-26-2022. By the time we had dinner, the soup had rested several hours and it was even more delicious! My husband actually said stupendous, which is not a word one hears very often these days. This recipe is a winner.
Hi LiCottam,
Thanks for updating your review! It’s awesome that the soup got even better after resting. Your husband’s “stupendous” comment says a lot about how good it was.
Your twist with sliced ginger and liquid aminos sounds cool. Soaking lentils for extra nutrition makes sense too.
Having baked tofu on the side sounds yummy, and making extra soup for the freezer is a smart move.
Thank you for your awesome feedback!! Enjoy more cooking adventures!
